Built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the venue has a maximum capacity of 18,000 for sports such as basketball and netball, while capacity for concerts can exceed 21,000. Taking 18 months to build, the arena opened in October 1999 at a cost of $200 million and is situated at Sydney Olympic Park adjacent to Accor Stadium. The highest point of the venue are the roof masts at a height of 42 metres with the roof itself 39 metres from the ground. An eight level car park is situated adjacent to the venue with 3,400 spaces with Sydney Olympic Park train station a short walk from the venue. The Sydney SuperDome acquired its first naming rights sponsor in May 2006 when it became Acer Arena, then in September 2011, Allphones took over the naming-rights of the venue, and since April 2016, it has been known as Qudos Bank Arena.
During the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the Sydney SuperDome played host to Basketball finals and Gymnastics. Qudos Bank Arena plays host to a range of sports including basketball with the Sydney Kings playing its NBL home games at the venue. It has also hosted WNBL and Super Netball matches, as well as tennis, boxing and UFC. It plays host to regular concerts and other entertainment events throughout the year.
