Dapto Showground
The Dapto Showground, also known as The Groundz, is located in the the Wollongong suburb of Dapto in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. The showground is home of the famous Dapto Dogs every Thursday night. The Dapto Greyhound Racing Club started racing in 1937 on the current site. The venue includes a main grandstand with seating for approximately 1,000 fans, plus indoor restaurant and bar facilities. Within the greyhound track is a rectangular sports field which is home to the Dapto Canaries Rugby League Club. The grandstand, including the broadcast facilities, judge’s compartment and photo finish facilities were replaced in 1971. Following a fire in 1991, a new office block and bar facilities were opened in 1993, while a new track was installed in 2006, and in 2012 the slipping track was built.
