Now that fans are allowed to return to sports stadiums in Australia, it is the ideal opportunity to discuss the best venues in the country in regards to comfort levels.

Here is a list we’ve put together of the seven most comfortable major sports stadiums in Australia, in no particular order.

Optus Stadium

Optus Stadium is Australia's most expensive sports venue ever, but most guests who have visited will agree that it has been worth every dollar.

The Perth venue, home to teams including the West Coast Eagles, Fremantle Dockers and Perth Scorchers, has a capacity of 60,000 and opened around three years ago. Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are among the stars to have played shows at Optus Stadium, which is definitely one of the most comfortable in all of Australia.

The seats are wide, as well as boasting cupholders, while they offer a superb view of the action, no matter where fans are located within the bowl-shape design. The Victory Lounge offers the height of luxury with plush seats in the open that also recline, as well as dining room and boardroom inside. As you would expect, the corporate facilities are also first class, as are the food and beverage options for regular punters.

Melbourne Cricket Ground

Australia's biggest sports stadium by some distance, the Melbourne Cricket Ground is also one of the country's most iconic venues, hosting the famous Boxing Day Test match and also the AFL Grand Final each year.

Even though more than 100,000 fans can pack into the stadium, it retains a solid level of comfort for supporters, while its close proximity to the city of Melbourne means it is very easy to get to for the big game.

The Great Southern Stand is the oldest stand at the ground, built in 1992, but was redeveloped at a cost of tens of millions of dollars in recent years to bring its facilities up to scratch, including brand-new comfortable seats in level two of the four-level stand. On the other side of the ground, the Balcony in the MCC Members Reserve offers padded seats for extra comfort, while the bars and restaurants on offer to the members are first-class.

With the MCG having state-of-the-art WiFi, it is easy to access the best cricket bookies while watching the cricket or footy, or access the MCG App to view the queue lengths for the various food and beverage outlets located throughout the stadium.

The Gabba

Even though the Gabba is currently not the easiest stadium in Australia to get to (this will change in the future with its own train station), it is well worth the effort as the experience of watching the country's cricket team or the Brisbane Lions AFL team here is hard to beat.

While the Brisbane venue is one of Australia's older sporting venues, facilities have been brought up to modern standards in most areas with a major upgrade of the venue completed in 2020.

What is for sure is that every seat in the Gabba guarantees an outstanding view of the action, with its 40,000 capacity meaning every seat is close to the action.

Metricon Stadium

Home to the Gold Coast Suns, Metricon Stadium benefited from improvements as a result of the Gold Coast being chosen to host the Commonwealth Games back in 2018.

As a result, Metricon Stadium has some of the best food and drink available at any venue in Australia, adding to the high level of comfort experienced for a trip here.

The stadium was completely rebuilt for the entry of the Suns into the AFL back in 2011 and it is certainly worth ticking off the list of top venues to take in a big game in Australia.

Blundstone Arena

When the weather is good, there are few better places to watch live sport than at Blundstone Arena in Hobart, Tasmania.

Traditionally known as Bellerive Oval, the grandstands at this stadium are relatively small, which means the view is always outstanding, even from the back rows. There is even the chance to stand on the hill to take in games, but those who want a bit more comfort from their sporting experience have plenty of good options at this arena as well.

It is also worth pointing out that Blundstone Arena probably has the best backdrop of any sporting stadium in Australia, with fans able to enjoy views of Mount Wellington and the Derwent River.

Marvel Stadium

Back to Melbourne next, with Marvel Stadium also making our list of the most comfortable sports stadiums in Australia.

Centrally located within Melbourne’s Docklands precinct, the stadium essentially replaced the old Waverley Park in Melbourne’s outer south-eastern suburbs and while mostly used for Australian rules football, it also hosts cricket, football and concerts.

Level 2 in the Medallion Club the best place to take in a game at Marvel Stadium, and perhaps the best of any stadium in Australia, due to the high level of comfort including padded seats with individual video screens, impressive views of the field, high-quality bars and restaurants, while the stadium’s retractable roof means you won’t get wet if it rains.

Adelaide Oval

We finish with Adelaide Oval which has to be included too, with few better sporting experiences available in Australia than being one of the more than 50,000 passionate fans in a packed house at this iconic venue. It received a major redevelopment, completed in 2014, to make it truly world-class with fantastic facilities on offer for spectators.

Standing on the hill is popular with a lot of Aussies, but others will want to book a seat that makes sure they get a great view of the field and also the famous scoreboard. The Hill of Grace restaurant is well worth a visit, while craft beer is widely available to buy and enjoy at the ground as well. With the opening of the new Adelaide Oval Hotel, you can now even stay at the venue.
