Adelaide Oval

Adelaide Oval is South Australia's largest stadium, primarily hosting AFL and Cricket, with a capacity of 53,583. The inner-city venue was transformed with a complete redevelopment concluding in 2014, converting the historic ground into a world-class stadium, while retaining historic elements including the hill and scoreboard.

Adelaide Oval has enjoyed a proud history as one of Australia’s premier sporting and entertainment venues for more than 140 years. In late 2009, the State Government committed $535 million to redevelop the venue with the view to delivering an internationally renowned, world-class venue for the 21st Century. The redeveloped oval sits proudly within a revitalised riverbank and parklands precinct; home to cricket, football and providing an exceptional venue for a host of other major sporting events and entertainment.

Adelaide Oval has long been regarded as one of the more picturesque Test cricket venues in the world and that has been kept in mind during the redevelopment. The first stage was the construction of a new 14,000-seat western grandstand, replacing the old members stand, completed in November 2010 and increasing capacity to 36,000. Phase two commenced in early 2012 and involved the construction of two new grandstands, the southern stand (14,000 capacity), followed by the eastern stand (19,000 capacity), which has boosted the total seating capacity to 50,083 plus standing room for approximately 3,500 people on the famous hill which was retained along with the historic scoreboard and the distinctive Moreton Bay figs which were planted in the 1890s.

AFL teams Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide moved their home games to the Adelaide Oval from Football Park at Westlakes. The venue also hosts occasional Rugby Union, Rugby League, Football matches and concerts.

Adelaide Oval is located on the edge of the CBD and as part of the Riverbank master plan, a new footbridge was also constructed to link the venue directly to the CBD, allowing easy access for fans walking from the city. A new hotel is due to be built at the stadium, on the outside of the eastern grandstand.
