Marvel Stadium
Marvel Stadium is a 55,000-seat multi-purpose venue located in Melbourne's Docklands precinct, playing host to a variety of events including Australian Football, Rugby League/Union, Football, Cricket and concerts. The venue is now known as Marvel Stadium as of October 1, 2018 following an eight-year naming-rights sponsorship with The Walt Disney Company Australia.
The Docklands venue features a retractable roof ensuring perfect conditions at all times. It opens and closes in less than 20 minutes and even with the roof open, 98 percent of patrons are sitting behind the drip line of the roof. When the roof is closed, the ceiling height to the underside of the support structure is 24 metres (78 feet) and to underside of the fixed structure is 35 metres.
Marvel Stadium can be re-configured to suit many sports and entertainment events. Moveable lower tiers can be configured into a rectangle or oval to suit a variety of field sports and stage events. This seating can move up to 18 metres forward which is ideal for rectangular sports, although this isn't used often.
The Melbourne venue has now had three naming rights sponsors since it opened in 2000. It was initially known as Colonial Stadium before changing to Telstra Dome in October 2002 and Etihad Stadium in March 2009. As of October 2018, the venue's name was changed to Marvel Stadium.
A $225 million redevelopment of Marvel Stadium was completed in March 2024, featuring new facilities for players and spectators, including new plazas, restaurants, bars and function spaces.
