Optus Stadium

Optus Stadium

Optus Stadium (known as Perth Stadium for international cricket matches) is Western Australia's new 60,000-seat multi-purpose stadium capable of hosting AFL, cricket, football, rugby union and league as well as major concerts and entertainment events. The stadium officially opened in January 2018.

The State Government owned Stadium is located on the Burswood Peninsula, minutes from Perth’s CBD and near the Crown Perth Entertainment Complex. Using a ‘fans first’ approach to planning and design, the Stadium offers an unrivalled spectator experience including exceptional event atmosphere and cutting edge stadium technology.

Optus Stadium features a roof with 85% of the permanent seats under the drip line as well as two large video screens and LED lighting. It was also the first stadium in Australia to offer Field Clubs and Suites located adjacent to the field of play while the fans have a 360 degree circulation and views of the pitch on the lower concourse.

The stadium has been built with integrated train, bus and pedestrian solutions to provide spectators with multiple transport options. The Perth Stadium train station gives fans easy access to the venue.

The venue is home to Western Australia's two AFL teams - West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers and BBL team Perth Scorchers. It also hosts Perth's international cricket fixtures and other major events including an A-League Grand Final, Perth Glory fixtures against overseas teams and the NRL State of Origin. The record crowd for Optus Stadium is 61,241 for the 2019 Bledisloe Cup clash between the Wallabies & All Blacks, where additional seating was used on three sides of the playing arena. The highest AFL crowd is 59,608 for the AFL Preliminary Final in September 2018 between West Coast Eagles and Melbourne.

Telecommunications company Optus secured the naming-rights ahead of its opening, with the venue known as Optus Stadium for at least the next ten years. However, for international cricket matches, the venue retains its original name of Perth Stadium.
