UTAS Stadium
UTAS Stadium (University of Tasmania Stadium - known non-commercially as York Park), is a 15,000-capacity Australian Rules Football and Cricket ground located in Launceston, Tasmania. The venue has been redeveloped several times since 2000 to bring it up to the standard it is today, with new upgrades planned in the years ahead to further enhance it.
The Hawthorn Football Club has played AFL home games at the Launceston venue since 2001 and continue to do so today, while St Kilda also played games at York Park between 2003 and 2006. It also continues to host local football and occasional cricket (BBL/WBBL) and soccer (A-League) fixtures. The future Tasmanian Devils Football Club will play the minority share of their AFL games at UTAS Stadium, with the majority to be played at the new Hobart Stadium.
The stadium received its first major redevelopment in 2000, incorporating the new EE Gunns Stand - a two level grandstand with corporate facilities, plus TV standard lighting. At the time, the venue also featured a social club building on the wing and temporary grandstands on the outer side, with a total capacity of around 15,000.
The next redevelopment in 2002 included the construction of terrace seating behind each of the goals and on the outer wing. Yet another redevelopment took place over the following summer which included constructing a roof over the seating in the outer three sides, this was completed in September 2003, just in time for the Rugby World Cup. Since then, the 2,125-seat Carlton Draught Stand replaced the heritage-listed Northern Stand (which was relocated to Invermay Park) and the EE Gunns stand was extended on both sides to further increase the venue's capacity to 19,000.
