The Queensland government has re-appointed ASM Global as manager of Suncorp Stadium for a further five years.

The company runs stadiums across Australia, New Zealand, the Asia Pacific and Middle East, and has managed Suncorp Stadium since its major redevelopment in 2003. The extension following a formal tender process.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham said, “It is also fortunate that we are part of a world-wide network in ASM Global which has assisted us in continuing to take advantage of the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology ensuring the Suncorp Stadium team remains amongst the most elite in the world.”

The management rights news comes as the number of concerts permitted at the 52,500-capacity stadium could be set to double over the next two years to meet increased demand.

The Queensland government has released a survey asking the community if it would consider allowing the doubling of events at Suncorp Stadium, seven years after the last cap was lifted.

The Brisbane stadium is currently allowed to host a maximum of six concerts per year and already has shows lined up for 2023 by Elton John (21 January), Red Hot Chili Peppers (29 January) and three dates with Ed Sheeran (17-19 February).

The number of concerts has already impacted the amount of sport played at the venue. Brisbane Roar will return to their previous home this coming A-League season by playing three home games at Suncorp, but the club was hoping to play more at the venue. Its remaining home games will be played at Moreton Daily Stadium at Redcliffe.

The Redcliffe Dolphins will enter the NRL next season, playing the majority of their games at Suncorp Stadium, while it also hosts home games for the Brisbane Broncos and Queendland Reds.

ASM Global Asia Pacific chairman Harvey Lister, whose company operates the Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall has more stadiums are needed in the city to cater for demand.

Ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games, the proposed 17,000-capacity Brisbane Live Arena, located at Roma Street in the heart of the CBD, will ease the demand for venues.
