Brisbane Live Arena

Brisbane Live Arena

Brisbane Live Arena is a proposed 17,000-seat sports and entertainment venue to be built in the heart of the city - above the new Roma Street underground train station. Two rival bidders will vie for the right to build the arena, expected to be completed by 2024. The new arena would also have outward-facing retail opportunities on the Roma Street frontage as well as a ‘Sky Lounge’ which operates as a function space during non-event times.

The venue was conceived by music entrepreneur Harvey Lister’s company ASM Global, which operates the ageing Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall. First mentioned in October 2018, the new Brisbane Live Arena forms part of a 2032 Brisbane Olympics bid, hosting swimming with the construction of a temporary pool which would be dismantled following the Olympics. The venue would have the ability to host basketball, netball and other indoor sports. With Brisbane winning the rights to host the Olympics, this project appears certain to proceed.
