Scully Park
Scully Park is a rectangular ground located in the country NSW town of Tamworth. The 11,000-capacity venue opened in June 2015 on the site of the old Oval 2 and alongside the existing ground at the Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct. The venue features a main grandstanding with seating for 700 spectators and lighting. The capacity of the venue was boosted from about 2500 to 11,000 following a $3.2 million partnership with council, the state government and the Wests Entertainment Group.
The parties overcame staunch opposition from conservationists, motel owners and a handful of prominent footballers, to upgrade the ground 70 metres away from the original version, which has played host to the likes of Andrew Johns, Ellery Hanley and Steve Menzies over the years.
The newly redeveloped venue has hosted NRL matches as well as the City-Country Origin fixture. As well as Rugby League, it also hosts Rugby Union and Football.
The 700-seat covered grandstand includes two change rooms, ice baths, showers, toilets, medical and referees’ rooms, bar and kiosk facilities, five corporate suites, broadcast and media boxes and disabled seating capabilities. A large hill opposite the grandstand boosts the total capacity to around 11,000, while a small hill is at one end and a temporary grandstand is used at the other end for additional seating. Located at the site is the West Tamworth Leagues Club.
