North Sydney Olympic Pool

Redevelopment/Construction

The North Sydney Olympic Pool is an aquatic centre located adjacent to the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Milsons Point, with views overlooking the Harbour towards the Sydney CBD. The historic pool opened in April 1936 on the Dorman Long workshop site following the completion of the Harbour Bridge. It hosted the swimming and diving events for the 1938 Empire Games and regularly hosted the Australian National Swimming Championships and Olympic Trials. Its grandstand originally had a seating capacity of 2,000, but was reduced to 1,500 in 2018 due to structural issues and a year later further reduced to 900 due to engineers recommendations. Heating was added to the pool in 2000 and the facility was expanded in 2001 with the addition of a 25 metre indoor pool.

The pool closed in February 2021 to allow for a major redevelopment of the facility, including a replacement pool, new grandstand with permanent shade, a gym and accessible change facilities. While work was expected to be completed in 2023, the project has ran over time and budget, with works still ongoing in February 2025.
