A sod turning on Wednesday marked the official launch for the future home of NSW Cricket.

Located at Wilson Park, Silverwater, in Sydney Olympic Park, the $50 million NSW Cricket Centre of Excellence will be home to the NSW Blues and NSW Breakers squads and Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers BBL and WBBL squads as well as the headquarters for nearly 150 Cricket NSW staff.

It’s the first time in 160 years Cricket NSW will have a home it can call its own and the centre will also be available to the community, with an estimated 35,000 club and community players to use the facilities annually.

The centre will feature a main senior oval, secondary junior oval, 50 outdoor turf practice nets, a 15-lane indoor facility, elite and community change rooms, full gymnasium, rehabilitation & recovery centre and a public café.

Stage one construction of the new cricket centre is expected to be completed by March 2022.

The Centre of Excellence has been made possible thanks to a $30 million contribution from the NSW Government, a $5 million contribution from the Federal Government, and additional funding from Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW.

Similar to Melbourne’s Junction Oval which re-opened in 2018 following a major redevelopment, the new Centre will provide NSW with a dedicated year-round cricket training and administration facility.

Mr Germon thanked the NSW and Federal Governments for their strong support of cricket.

“This soon to be world-class facility will allow boys and girls to train alongside their NSW cricket heroes, inspiring the next generation of exciting young players,” Mr Germon said. “Thank you for your generosity and commitment to the future of our great game”.

Buildcorp have been appointed as the Head Contractors for the project.

Buildcorp Managing Director Tony Sukkar AM said: “Buildcorp is honoured to be partnering with Cricket NSW to help bring this landmark facility to life.
