The AFL’s newest venue, Optus Stadium, has been rated the best for watching footy by the fans.

The 2018 Fan Survey on AFL.com.au was completed by just under 50,000 and they were asked which venue they had attended most in the past 12 months and how they rate that venue.

1. OPTUS STADIUM
Despite some teething issues, not uncommon for a new venue, the new $1.5 billion home of the Eagles and Dockers rated number one with 9/10. With a capacity of 60,000, Optus Stadium is the second-largest in the AFL.

2. ADELAIDE OVAL
A close second is Adelaide Oval – often referred to as the leading AFL venue for the past few years. Rated 8.9/10, the home of the Crows and Power is located just minutes from the CBD and now hosts all AFL footy in Adelaide since the closure of Football Park.

3. MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND
The MCG is Australia’s largest and most well-known venue. Home of the AFL Grand Final until at least 2057, the 100,000-capacity venue was ranked 8.7/10. The Great Southern Stand will eventually be upgraded however this could be a decade away.

4. GMHBA STADIUM
Geelong’s home ground ranked right up there (8.7/10) thanks to a number of recent redevelopments. The fifth and final stage will improve the venue further.

5. SYDNEY CRICKET GROUND
Despite having some outdated facilities, the SCG still comes in at number five with 8.3/10. The home of the Swans just sneaks ahead of Spotless Stadium – home of its cross-city rivals.

Elsewhere, Etihad Stadium comes in at seventh, followed by the two Queensland venues – Metricon Stadium and the Gabba. Then it’s Blundstone Arena and UNSW Canberra Oval completing the list of AFL venues.
