Perth Stadium construction

Perth Stadium is on track to be completed on time and ready for the 2018 AFL season.

Construction of the new stadium at Burswood is now 88% complete with 55,000 of the 60,000 seats installed and the playing surface to be rolled out over the next month and testing of the giant video screens.

The Swan River Pedestrian Bridge has had significant delays and will now be completed in March 2018.

The state-of-the-art LED lighting system will also be completed in the coming months. The system incorporates 15,000 LED lights and uses a control platform to create a completely immersive lighting experience for the venue and is adaptable to the specific requirements of each sporting code that will play at the venue.

While a deal between the WA-based AFL sides Fremantle Football Club, West Coast Eagles, AFL, WA Football Commission and State Government is not signed, it is said to be not far away.

The WA Football Commission could be rebranded as AFLWA in a bid to secure about $700,000 in extra annual funding from the AFL that would help the WAFC and the State Government finalise a deal for football’s shift to the new Burswood stadium.

Ed Sheeran will be one of the first acts to perform at Perth Stadium on March 2 and 3, while Premier League Club Chelsea will play an International friendly against Perth Glory in mid-2018 and Rugby League State of Origin Game 2 and the Bledisloe Cup are scheduled to be played in 2019. It was hoped the upcoming Ashes Test Match would be staged at the new venue however delays have forced it to remain at the WACA.
