The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have honoured their greatest ever player with the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Bob Fulton Stand at 4 Pines Park.

Fulton, who passed away on May 23 last year aged 74, played 213 first grade games for Manly and was the only person to both captain and coach the Sea Eagles to premierships.

The new Northern Grandstand at the club’s home ground, traditionally known as Brookvale Oval, will now be known as the Bob Fulton Stand.

The existing grandstand at the southern end of 4 Pines Park was previously known as the Fulton-Menzies Stand, but will be renamed the Lyons-Menzies Stand after champion Manly players Steve Menzies and Cliff Lyons.

The official ceremony took place at half-time of the NRL match between the Sea Eagles and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on Sunday.

Bob’s wife, Anne, said the Bob Fulton Stand was very special for the family.

Their children, Scott (Recruitment Manager), Brett (SG Ball Coach) and Kristie (Elite Pathways Manager) continue to play important roles for the NRL club.

“The Bob Fulton Stand is a legacy for our grandkids and future generations. His memory will always live on. Bob was very passionate about Manly and always wanted to ensure success for the Club.”

Brett Fulton said the naming of the stand was a tremendous honour.

“The next generations of our family will be able to understand what their grandfather and great grandfather was about and what he represented,’’ Brett said.

“The Bob Fulton Stand is here forever. From that point of view, I couldn’t be prouder myself.”

Kristie Fulton said she felt tremendous pride in the naming of the Bob Fulton Stand.

“It’s a wonderful tribute and honour for a man who gave so much of his life to the club he loved,” Kristie said.

“Not only did my father make a remarkable contribution as a player, captain and coach but post-retirement he continued to work tirelessly behind the scenes up until his passing to support the future success of the club.

“I’ve never known a more passionate, driven and loyal person. The Bob Fulton Stand is an enduring reminder of the incredible contribution my father made to the Manly Sea Eagles over his lifetime”

Manly CEO Stephen Humphreys said the Club was very proud to name the new 3000 undercover seat grandstand in honour of Bob Fulton.

“Bob will forever be fondly remembered and loved at Manly not only for what he achieved as a player, but also for the huge legacy he left in the building of this proud and successful Club,’’ Humphreys said.
