Brisbane Roar has announced a return to their traditional home, Suncorp Stadium, ahead of the new 2022/23 season.

The A-League club will play at least three home games at Queensland’s premier rectangular stadium, for the first time since March 2020.

The Roar will play their remaining home games at Moreton Daily Stadium in Redcliffe, which has been the club’s permanent home ground for the past two seasons after the club left Suncorp Stadium for financial reasons.

Brisbane Roar Chairman Chris Fong said, “The club has listened to the fans and I assure them that these three games are just the beginning as we move beyond the challenges of COVID-19 and into a growth period for the club.”

“The issue with Redcliffe is that a lot of fans can’t get there. Stadiums Queensland and (Suncorp Stadium GM) Alan Graham have been great, and it’s been a good process in working towards getting us back into Brisbane,” Fong said.

The Roar first played at the boutique Redcliffe stadium during the 2019/20 A-League season, attracting near sell-out crowds of 9250 and 9387, before moving to the venue full-time the following season. During past season however, the club averaged just 4500.

Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham said, “The Roar have had great success at Suncorp Stadium including their three championships in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and we are excited to see what this next season holds for them.”

“Suncorp Stadium is a fantastic venue for watching football as we all saw during the Orange Sunday Finals and we can’t wait to have them back.”

It’s expected to be a staggered move back to the 52,500-capacity Brisbane stadium, with the club to eventually return to playing all its home games at Suncorp.

Meanwhile, construction has commenced on Brisbane Roar’s new A-League women’s and academy headquarters at the South Pine Sports Complex in Moreton Bay. The $22 million facility is expected to be completed in early 2023.

The 2022/23 A-League Men's season will commence on October 7 with the Grand Final scheduled for the weekend of May 26-27.

The new campaign will also see Sydney FC return to Moore Park, playing their home games at the new Allianz Stadium after being based at various suburban venues including Jubilee Stadium for the past few years.
