Empty MCG for AFL round 1

The next four rounds of the 2020 AFL fixture has been announced by the AFL, with the season to resume on June 11.

The season will get back underway with a blockbuster between Collingwood and Richmond at the MCG on a Thursday night, while the round 2 schedule will also see Geelong host Hawthorn at GMHBA Stadium for the first time in almost 15 years.

You can also view fixtures via stadium pages. The remaining rounds of the AFL season will be announced at a later date.

Metricon Stadium will host seven games, with the Gold Coast venue to host one home game each for the Eagles, Dockers, Crows and Power, while the Suns will host three home games.

The AFL season has been reduced to 17 rounds due to covid-19, with round one already played behind closed doors.

While all future games will also be played in empty stadiums, there is hope limited crowds may be able to attend games later in the season, including 30,000 for the Grand Final – read more here.

The Grand Final venue and date is TBC at this stage. It is expected to be held in late October if there are no further delays, however the MCG is booked from mid-October onwards for the hosting of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, there is a chance the tournament may be postponed or cancelled, freeing up the 'G to host footy’s marquee fixture. If not, Marvel Stadium remains a possibility.
