Work has commenced on the final stage of the Dolphin Stadium redevelopment, which includes the construction of a new northern grandstand at the Redcliffe venue.

Work is expected to be completed by August 2020 and with a 11,000 capacity, including 10,000 seats, is expected to attract even more events to the stadium located at Kippa-Ring, just north of Brisbane.

As well as the 3170-seat grandstand at the northern end of the ground, opposite the League’s Club, the $6.5 million stage three redevelopment will also include change facilities suitable for female athletes with direct access to the main field and a second, upgraded field behind Dolphin Stadium, refurbishment of existing facilities to make them suitable for female athletes along with an electronic scoreboard and additional amenities for spectators.

Home of QLD Intrust Super Cup team Redcliffe Dolphins, the venue previously had a grass hill on each side of the field, with the western grandstand built in stage one featuring undercover seating and the eastern grandstand was built in stage two. The Leagues Club stands at the southern end.

Dolphins Chairman Bob Jones said the increased seating capacity at Dolphin Stadium will open up more opportunities to attract major events to the Moreton Bay Region.

“The chance to host even more national and international events generates massive exposure for our region through broadcast as well as huge economic benefits from visitor spending. Every person travelling from outside the area to watch events at Dolphin Stadium is spending here, whether it’s with accommodation providers, tourism operators or at coffee shops, restaurants and bars. It all equals money for our local economy,” Mr Jones said.

Brisbane Roar has previously played pre-season and W-League matches at Dolphin Stadium and this season, scheduled three A-League matches at the venue, the first one which attracted a sell-out crowd of 9,387 against Melbourne City on November 17. The next A-League fixture will be played on February 22.

The stadium hosted the 2019 Intrust Super Grand Final in front of almost 8,000 fans and the works will be complete in time for the 2020 season-decider which is also scheduled to be held at the venue.

Design and Construction company Paynters, responsible for delivering Stages 1 and 2 of the stadium, have been appointed to construct Stage 3.

The $6.5 million project is jointly funded by Redcliffe District Rugby League Club, Federal Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
