The new North Queensland Stadium is starting to rise from the ground, with the first seating platforms recently taking shape.

The new rectangular stadium, located near the heart of Townsville, will seat 25,000 fans and become the new home of the North Queensland Cowboys when it opens in time for the 2020 NRL season.

About 2000 prefabricated seating platforms will be manufactured for the stadium by local company Jackson Semler, and then fitted to large steel-rakers that form the skeleton of the venue. Over 80% of the work is expected to be completed by locals.

Recently released renders of the new venue show every seat will have a spectacular view of the action. An open end means the stadium can easily be upgraded to 30,000 seats in the future if there is the demand to do so.
