League returns to Jubilee

After months and months of hard work, and a hectic last week the Dragons successfully made their return to Oki Jubilee Stadium on Sunday 4 May 2003.

The weather held off on Saturday allowing a lot of last minute details to be organised for the big day. And what a day it was!

Patches of rain and a strong wind could not dampen the spirits of the Dragons faithful who flocked to the sell out game to witness another chapter in the Dragons history.

Premier League christened the new look Oki Jubilee Stadium with an impressive 24 - 16 victory over the Cronulla Sharks.

This was only the start of a very memorable day. Before the main game, 15 Dragons Legends were paraded to a rapturous welcome. The Legends were then joined by a marching band who belted out a rendition of 'When the Saints', that took many in the ground back to another age.

The First Grade team were lead onto the field to a welcome few would have experienced before, and they did not let the crowd down. A controlled display in the first half saw the Dragons leading 24-2 at the break. The tight local derby most had expected was looking like turning into a blowout. The Sharks fought back in the second half but could not match the Dragons intensity, with the home side eventually coming out winners 28-12.

The players went on a lap of honour to thank the supporters with the majority having stayed to applaud the victory and congratulate the team off the field.

Many said this day would not come, but here we are after the first of what should be a long reign of victories at newly improved Oki Jubilee Stadium. It's great to be back!
