Jade Stadium gets a new name

Jade Stadium is getting a new name following a change of naming rights sponsor to insurers AMI.

Jade Software Corporation, who bought the naming rights to the old Lancaster Park in 1998, has given up its agreement with mutual insurer AMI taking over as naming rights sponsor.

From today the landmark rugby and cricket ground, which is owned by the Christchurch City Council and operated by Vbase, will be known as AMI Stadium.

While the stadium has a new name, its owners want to rename the old eastern side stands, which are due to be redeveloped in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and are calling for public input.

The new sponsorship deal is part of the push to increase the stadium's seating capacity by 7,000 to 43,000 by replacing the Number 1 and 3 stands with a new East Stand to support the city's role in the 2011 Rugby World Cup and the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
