Sporting Codes unite for Members Equity to 35,000

The FFA, Rugby WA and Rugby League WA are part of a concerted push by all three rectangular codes to bring a 35,000-seat stadium to Perth. It is believed that the agendas of all codes are pushing for the redevelopment to go to 35,000.

Austadiums.com spoke with WARL General Manager Bill Nolsworthy, who confirmed that the FFA, WA Rugby League, WA Rugby and the Entertainment Industry will possibly submit a combined bid to the Major Stadia Taskforce leading up to the recommendations release early next year.

All three rectangular sporting codes are pushing the Major Stadia Taskforce for redevelopment of Members Equity Stadium into a 35,000-seat stadium which would provide added incentive for the ARL to schedule Test matches in the stadium.

Nolsworthy said he was quite impressed with the way the Major Stadia Taskforce has listened to their proposals.

"I've been pretty impressed with the feedback."

This comes as a reversal to the statements the WARL made to Austadiums.com last year, in that it believed the Force only needed a 25,000 seat stadium.

It is believed the Western Force hold the weight of getting a 35,000-seat stadium as crucial to the ongoing sustainability of the club.

While the Entertainment industries also have come on board, believing Members Equity Stadium at 35,000 capacity would be a better alternative than the football ground of Subiaco Oval for major concerts such as Robbie Williams.

The concerted bid for all the rectangular sporting codes to have a capacity of 35,000 started some months ago and will continue until the recommendations have been presented.

"It's been ongoing, initial presentations some months ago...Stadium Taskforce committee, collecting information from various sporting bodies."

While Nolsworthy confirmed to Austadiums.com that there was a possibility that the sporting codes would present a united front in a presentation to the Major Stadia Taskforce before the recommendations are given, which Austadiums.com believes will happen in the next few weeks.
