Titans, council resolve stadium row

The managing director of the Gold Coast Titans Rugby League Club says commonsense has prevailed in resolving an impasse over the set up at Carrara Stadium for the team's entry into the National Rugby League (NRL) next year.

Gold Coast City Council and the club were at loggerheads over the Titans' plans to install temporary seating for next year's home games.

Council was concerned about the likely cost and possible damage to the ground which will also host AFL games.

Titans' managing director Michael Searle says the club will fund the costs of installing the extra seats and turf protection.

"The council will basically allow us to place the temporary seating on the sidelines which will allow us to comply to the NRL's licence requirements around a rectangular facility," he said.

"It'll also take the capacity up to in excess of 20,000 people, which is a great result for Gold Coast sporting fans, meaning that an additional 3,000 men, women and children will be able to attend our games in 2007."
