Record WACA Test Crowd

Austadiums • Saturday 30th November 2002
The Western Australian Cricket Association celebrated Australia's opening day of the Third Orange Test against England with a record crowd at the new-look ground.

The all-new WACA Ground hosted 22,523 fans to smash the previous highest first day attendance figure, of 16,849 on December 1, 2002 when Australia played the West Indies.

Switching Members to the southern end Lillee-Marsh stand was also well received, with 8525 members at the first day.

It is the biggest membership attendance for a day's play in 30 Tests staged at the WACA.

Australian Cricket Board Chairman Mr Bob Merriman was among guests and members of the West Australian Team of the Century as the ground was officially re-launched during the luncheon interval.
