Construction of the new Sydney Football Stadium has hit another milestone, with the first bays of spectator seating installed.

900 seats have so far been installed at the southern end of the new stadium, completing three bays in the middle tier, with a further 400 to be installed every day, until all 42,620 are in place by mid next year.

Construction of the roof also continues, with the first panels in place at the northern end of the stadium, while the build of the roof structure continues around the venue.

While Sydney’s lockdown forced builders to down tools for two weeks and there was a 50% capacity cap in place upon their return, completion of the stadium remains on track, with workers to do extra hours until Christmas to make up for lost time.

Viewing progress at the site on Tuesday, NSW Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said, “the highly-anticipated new SFS is really starting to come to life before our eyes and it’s so exciting to start to see what fans will experience when they fill the stands.”

“Sports lovers are in for a real treat, with all 42,500 seats designed to be as close as possible to the field of play with amazing views.”

A combination of blue seating will fill the rectangular stadium, with the pattern designed by award-winning Indigenous artist Tony Albert, with the theme being “Two Worlds Colliding – Water and Land”.

The seating has been sourced from Victorian-based supplier, Camatic Seating, with most of the new venue's seats being its popular Axiom seat. Camatic will also be supplying premium seating for corporate areas.

The new SFS will include an open concourse with views of the field from a range of food and beverage outlets, and more amenities to minimise wait times.

A Sydney Roosters Centre of Excellence was recently announced at the stadium, while a Village Precinct adjacent to the venue will feature an underground carpark, signalling the end of on-grass parking at Moore Park.

The new Sydney Football Stadium is due to open in time for the 2022 NRL Finals Series.
