There are many major and iconic stadiums in Canada and we look at some of its largest sports stadiums.
Olympic Stadium
Located in Montreal's Olympic Park, this stadium was built in 1976 to play host to the Summer Olympics. As one of the biggest and most popular sports facilities in Canada, it has a fixed seating capacity of 56,040 but can be boosted to as much as 66,308 for football. For the Olympics, it could pack 73,000 in. The ‘Big O’ or ‘Big Owe’, as some people refer to it, is the venue where Montreal's national baseball and football teams play. It's an iconic building due to the tower standing next to the stadium, The Montreal Tower, which is the tallest inclined tower in the world with an angle elevation of 45 degrees.
Commonwealth Stadium
In McCauley, Alberta, you will find the Commonwealth Stadium, famous for hosting Eskimo events. Apart from hosting this sport event, this Canadian field is home to their national Football League and the Edmonton Eskimos. It can house 60,081 people, and it was purposefully designed for the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
BC Place
Among Canada's biggest multipurpose arenas, there is one that stands out - BC Place, situated in Vancouver, British Columbia. This venue is managed by the BC Pavilion Corporation and it is home to Vancouver Whitecaps FC and BC Lion. Moreover, this field is capable of holding up to 54,500 people, which is why it was the venue where the 2010 Winter Olympics and the Paralympics Games of 2010 were organised.
Rogers Centre
You will find the Rogers Centre in the downtown core of Toronto near Lake Ontario. Currently, this sports venue that opened in 1989, is home to the Toronto Blue Jays. BMO Field
The BMO Field in Toronto was constructed in 2007 and can seat 30,991 spectators. It has been the home field of Canada's national soccer team since 2007. Furthermore, the Canada Rugby team and the CFL Toronto Argonauts also use it.
Percival Molson Memorial
The maximum seating capacity of this stadium is 25,012 fans. Building the stadium cost C$100,000 in 1915, and it is now in the possession of McGill University. To point out, the CFL Montreal Alouettes share Percival Molson Memorial with the McGill Redmen.
IG Field (Investors Group Field)
Built for approximately C$167 million in 2013, Investors Group Field is located in Winnipeg. In addition to the metal roof, 52 suites, walk of fame and a restaurant, this venue includes various other amenities. Also, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play at Investors Group Field, which seats 33,000 fans.
TD Place Stadium
