The former home of the Adelaide 36ers, Titanium Security Arena, has a new owner and with it, a new name and $30 million upgrade plans.

The 8000-capacity former home court of Adelaide’s NBL team for almost 30 years has been purchased by the Pelligra Group and after some speculation regarding its future, the venue will not only remain, but be revitalised through a $30 million upgrade.

Known as Titanium Security Arena for the past six years, the venue will be renamed as the Adelaide 36ers Arena.

The property developer is planning a series of major upgrades in a bid to attract school and sporting groups to the venue. Improvements will also include a major solar panel and battery installation, enabling the facility to operate using 100% renewable energy.

While the NBL team’s training base will remain at the Findon venue, there are no plans to return home games there, instead continuing to play at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and longer-term, a new large-scale 12-15,000-seat stadium in Adelaide’s CBD.

After renovations are complete the Adelaide 36ers will also move their administration office to the arena, which also remains the home of the Adelaide Lightning (WNBL) and other sporting groups.

“We’re going to modernise the facility and it will be business as usual with existing groups who train and use the facility,” he told The Advertiser.

“Then we’re going to talk to other sporting groups and organisations and use the land to complement the facility – we want it to be somewhere between a school gymnasium and a major stadium, catering for everyday use.

The former owners of the venue had been investigating opportunities to rezone the land for residential use, but Mr Pelligra ruled out any development of housing or other uses on the site.

The venue opened as the Clipsal Powerhouse in 1992 as the new home of the Adelaide 36ers, who relocated from the old Apollo Stadium at Richmond.
