A suite of upgrades have been completed at Melbourne’s AAMI Park ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With the support of a $25 million investment from the Victoria Government, the Melbourne rectangular stadium has unveiled a range of improvements across player, fan, media and corporate facilities, ensuring a world-class experience for everyone at the venue.

New curved videoboards will ensure fans can keep across the action from all corners of the stadium, while new state-of-the-art LED sports lights enable bigger and better light sequences during matches.

A significant reconfiguration of the media, broadcast and corporate facilities provides better access for media and enhanced opportunities for VIP entertaining, while back-of-house improvements offer improved amenities for players. The stadium also now has a new 10,000sqm playing surface.

While delivered for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the venue’s tenant clubs and fans will reap the benefits of the upgrades long into the future, ensuring AAMI Park remains Melbourne’s premier venue for rectangular sports.

Opened in 2010, the stadium is home to the Melbourne Storm (NRL), Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, Western United (A-League) and Melbourne Rebels (Super Rugby).

The first match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Melbourne is just a week away, with Nigeria v Canada on Friday 21 July. Sold-out crowds are expected at all six Melbourne matches, with the Matildas’ final group match on Monday 31 July slated to be a highlight.

Capacity is reduced to 27,706 for the tournament, primarily due to media requirements, while the venue’s non-commercial name of Melbourne Rectangular Stadium will be used in line with FIFA regulations.
