Apart from the CEO situation, it all seems to be progressing rather well.

Canberra: Over 40%
Western Sydney: 25%
Rest of Sydney and Australia: 35% (WA = 160, Victoria = 700)

That's interesting. I think 3,000 is quite good from the actual GWS catchment area.
And they have just appointed an excellent new CEO in David Matthews.

I'm surprised Canberra % is so high. Have they over achieved there, or are they running behind expectations in Sydney? I would have anticipated the percentages to be the other way round.

Not surprised at Canberra as they buying a cheap AFL experience.Boba Fett wrote:I'm surprised Canberra % is so high. Have they over achieved there, or are they running behind expectations in Sydney? I would have anticipated the percentages to be the other way round.
I would think that Sydney numbers are the fundamental core and they would be chasing higher figures.

Re: The Western Sydney Football Club
I'm genuinely surprised at this. 3,000 is an absolutely shithouse number given how much time, effort and money they've invested so far. 3,000 would have been low-hanging fruit but they really haven't made any progress over the last 2 years.nobleoz wrote:That's interesting. For me, the key fixture will be Rd3 at Blacktown. I previously thought they'd sell out the fixture but now I'd estimate they'll pull 5-6k. If they do do that badly Mungoes, Unionistas, Sockah poofs and associated GWS-sceptics from AFL states will be pointing and laughing at Andrew Demetriou
Mark your calendars

Disagree, Simmo. The club is yet to play in the AFL, has no history, no clubrooms for members & has been regularly attacked/ridiculed in Sydney media as a Victorian intruder in League heartland. Only true believers would becone members at this early stage.
I predict GWS will draw crowds on a par with low attendances for NRL - 10,000.

-3,000 Swans members
-700 North Melbourne members (known phenomenon that some Vics take out a second membership to support the povo club)
The numbers are laughable but the AFL will stick it out.

I think that was what Simmo was saying they'll get shithouse figures akin to nrl.nobleoz wrote:Disagree, Simmo. Re: The Western Sydney Football Club
yeah that's cool but running an AFL club costs waaay more. You get false comfort from comparing them to NRL clubs.
Keep an eye on this thread to see how far behind the 8 ball a club with 12,000 half-members will be

Firstly, GWS have virtually paid for themselves with the TV deal in much the same way the Sydney Swans paid for themselves by being the only Sunday TV game but only receiving their 1/14 VFL share.Simmo79 wrote:yeah that's cool but running an AFL club costs waaay more. Secondly, it's November and GWS has been playing in the NEAFL.
The GWS would have to be on track. They've managed to keep their name in the media.
The draft is comming up and then it cranks up to season proper.
They could pick up Davis, Medhurst and Fev for a song.
