Richardson Park

Closed/Former Venue

Richardson Park, also known as Harvey Norman Stadium, is a rectangular sporting field located in Darwin NT and was the former home of rugby league in the top end. The venue is currently closed and in a state of disrepair, with plans to demolish the structures in the near future and repurpose it into a public recreation space.

The venue includes a main grandstand with undercover seating for about 1500 spectators and a grass hill surrounding the rest of the playing field, with a total capacity of around 5,000.

There were $20 million redevelopment plans for Richardson Park back in 2015 to make it a 10,700-capacity stadium, however the plans were abandoned due to public backlash. Instead, the new Territory Rugby League Stadium was built at Warren Park within the Marrara Sports Precinct which opened in May 2019.

Rugby league’s governing body in the NT abandoned the Ludmilla venue in 2014 and since then, no competitive matches have been played there, however it did continue to host training for a little while longer. Richardson Park was recently denied heritage status by the NT Government.
