Commonwealth Games better off due to Australian Football
There seems to be a lot of discussion about this subject .
The Olympics may overshadow the CG but one advantage the CG have is that they come around much more often for it's member nations and for that reason will have a significant influence on stadium designs .IMO the CG will have more weight on a future Perth stadium than a WC .

Yes, but its not because magically the QLD Government think that AFL deserves a 40,000 seat stadium and the NRL don't.nobleoz wrote:Brisbane & Perth stadia built for CG were white elephants as spectator stadia aftewards. At least Carrara would be used for crowds afterwards. Has it been officially decided that Gold Coast is the Aus submission for CG?
If an Athletics track could be accepted by Australian soccer fans it would have given the Titans the 40,000 venue and done an athletics track around the rectangular field.
This is not the desired outcome, so for big matches they will play at Carrara.
TBH it will probably be a disadvantage of the AFL, with the TV imagery and atmosphere issues with a larger venue...

FIFA played the last World Cup on Athletics stadiums...
No its not 100% confirmed, but WA won't be bidding now because the scrooges have delayed our stadium
The best use if Skilled Stadium had not been built, was to incorporate an Athletics field inside a Rugby Stadium. But this does not happen in Australia, because people want to be on top of the action. They are fussy.
Plus for the AFL they can rip it up after the match and don't have to move any stands. Not so the case if you do it for a Rectangular venue...
Thus there is the problem...
Nothing to do with the AFL...
