I agree. I was about to reply and say that I have never seen anything stating what mattwinter said, but then I realised I've never seen anything, from a reliable source , stating what "everyone else knows" (which is "only once city can have two stadiums").

I remember there was an interpretation going around, that the actual statement was that "there must be at 9 or more stadiums and 8 or more cities" which people misinterpreted as "only one city can have two stadiums", which isn't what the statement says.

Anyone have a reliable source?

i want the state and federal governments and various sporting bodies around the country to read the damn thing and work out what they've got to comply with to get any serious bids for international football tournaments up.

Does anyone else feel really insecure about our stadiums now after reading/flicking through the document? I mean with all the extra facilities needed I feel like there will be about 3,000 spectators let into Suncorp for the match.

And darn it most modern stadiums have forgotten the Helipad

Maybe its just me, love the pictures on the first few pages as well, actually pretty darn good through out the whole thing.

First things first, I am scared that Subiaco Oval will exist as the major sporting stadium in Western Australia past 2020.

Surely it will be one of the most disgraceful venues in the world for a modern nation such as Australia.

You will find the reports that are being commissioned between various architectural bodies and the FFA on a World Cup bid, will be looking at where we fit with our stadiums.

In WA we have a struggle to get them interested in actually investing in stadia infrastructure...

this document shows The Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg) have expressed interest in bidding together, as have Portugal and Spain.

so an Australian / NZ bid is not out of the question....there is no way in hell we will get 2018 so they should just focus on 2022. It will go to the northern hemisphere no questions about it, if Australia got it in 2018 it would be 3 times south of the equator.

I didn't know Portugal and Spain were considering a joint bid.. but about the other three, those countries actually form a loose unified state known as Benelux which does have legal recognition (like the EU but much smaller). This is how they plan to get around the "no joint bids" loophole.

They also have the benefit of being very small - it is 390km from one end to the other - that is the same as Canberra to Newcastle or Sunshine Coast to Coffs Harbour. The share the same currency. They don't share the same language, butt considering Belgium and Luxembourg have three official languages EACH I know how much of a difference that would make!

At any rate, I don't think this bid affects us - the 2018/2022 world cup hosts will both be announced in 2011, one will be in Europe and one won't.

We should be concerned about bids from North America or elsewhere in Asia, they are the only areas that could stop us hosting the world cup.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that the FFA will be bidding simultaneously for 2018 and 2022.

Actually that's true, Luxembourg will be part of the bid (as a supporter) but won't be hosting any matches at all - just a FIFA Congress. They also wouldn't be getting auto qualification.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that the FFA will be bidding simultaneously for 2018 and 2022.

I reckon so.. though FIFA has been sending mixed signals.. at one point the nation had to choose which it will bid for, at another time it was stated that the two hosts would be selected from a pool of bids.

this is as a good a thread as any but did anyone else notice that the International Rugby Board will charge a 100m pound licence fee to the winning bid for the 2015 RWC?
