Re: Parra Stadium Porn (Now Parramatta Upgrade Thread)
Ch 7 news just had a spot about a possible new 35k stadium on the Pirtek site. Image is on their twitter site and is Red Bull Stadium in the Parramatta Park surrounds.

So is there a source for this rumour that the Cth will pay for the Parra upgrade/rebuild?

Wanderers might have a spare 3.5 million to chip in.

Didn't hear it myself but Lederer on Grandstand yesterday said that there will be big news about the stadium in a couple of weeks.

Re: Parra Stadium Porn (Now Parramatta Upgrade Thread)
I did some digging into plans for the urban renewal of North Parramatta and found that the site includes the stadium and the whole of Parramatta Park. The project has been declared a State Significant Site meaning Government takes over the planning and approval role from Council. This could mean the restrictions of the size of the site can be overcome by negotiation around all heritage issues where the planned spend is $100m. A "slightly" larger site means the ability to construct a 35k stadium that can be upgraded to the Tier 2 limit of 40k post 2031.

I suppose it depends on whether the powers that be are going to try and do small, relatively cheap incremental capacity/facility upgrades or bite the bullet and rebuild from scratch. As always, where's the money going to come from?

The urban renewal plan sees government owned land sold off to developers and the profits used for improvements to heritage sites, $100m, and infrastructure, $500m. The project includes 6,000 new homes mainly between O'Connell St and the river north of the Leagues Club.

Re: Parra Stadium Porn (Now Parramatta Upgrade Thread)
To give an idea of the Parra CBD area as it's growing:
It's always been an important activity centre, but over the next generation or two it's going to start pinching a lot of the commercial services sector off Sydney proper. Hell they're proposing buildings out in Parra that exceed Sydney's archaic 235m height limit. By the time I reach gyfox age it's plausible the public psyche will move away from the idea of the 'sydney sider' to something more along the lines of a 'twin cities' identity.
A top tier stadium in the area is easily justified from an urban planning perspective. In the city, next to rail, in a park, next to a river, two solid tenants year round filling the place. Book the crews in now, sh*t's gonna get real.

Some of the building planned or under construction are shown here:-

Council owns 8 Ha of land in the city and is progressively making it available to develop the city.
More detail of what is happening and planned in the city is given in this article:-

Re: Parra Stadium Porn (Now Parramatta Upgrade Thread)
So at the time that report was an anomaly, however Lederer has said on two different occasions since then that Parramatta will get a 35k stadium... not "get" as in it's agreed on and we'll announce the details soon, but "get" as in this is what we're working hard for and the current plans are an insult to our collective dignity.gyfox wrote:Ch 7 news just had a spot about a possible new 35k stadium on the Pirtek site. Re: Parra Stadium Porn (Now Parramatta Upgrade Thread)
Evidently Lederer and the local State Member said at the official reception in Parramatta this evening that the 35k stadium "will" happen.
It appears that the work on the $29m upgrade is "continuing" with selected tenderers working on prices for work in the Eastern Stand. The tender for the Western Stand closed just over a month ago.
2+2=5 says that the 35k is the medium/long term plan and the current work is an interim solution.

Anybody else see either a horribly compromised 35k stadium and/or a large amount of money being wasted by the end of this process?gyfox wrote:Evidently Lederer and the local State Member said at the official reception in Parramatta this evening that the 35k stadium "will" happen.
