For Bulldogs Home games or the League aggregate?U REDS wrote:According to an e-mail from the Bulldogs, the official 2011 attendance aggregate is 291,209.
I think this will have been another year of record attendances for the SANFL, so it's a pity that the ABC is now trying to shaft it off TV:(

Oh yeah... should have added 'league' to that sentence.
No one club would get that much in one year, though!

Why doesn't Centrals go straight to the GF every year? The other teams can play off for the opponent's spot. It would make the finals less predictable.

Re: SANFL 2011 and Leagues Championship Cup
Jeffles how's this for a damning stat against the other 9 SANFL teams. Since 2000 Central District are in fact 12-0 in the 2nd Semi-Final (and 9-2 in the GF.....). Its getting beyond a joke. The other teams need to actually start playing football in the finals, especially when they're playing the Dogs. Centrals have proven time and time again they are beatable. Sure, they only lost 3 games this year (to Westies, Norwood & Norths and only the 'Legs made the finals) but they can be beat. Someone just beat the buggers.....please. Five in a row is just too much. You wouldn't expect it of Port Adelaide at their best let alone the Pommies out north of Adelaide.
After saying that I'd love to see the Eagles win this year since they're my brothers team (and mine didn't make the bleedin' finals.....again) but sadly I can't see Centrals being beaten on 9 October by either Norwood or WWT.
The good thing is that nothing lasts forever. Sooner or later Centrals run will end. Hopefully West Adelaide are the side to take over

Haha. Good work.
I guess it's like the Claremont v Subi thing with the WAFL. It's up to the other clubs to catch them.
If people are bored now, imagine what it would have been like when St George won 11 in a row.

So for something totally different, it's WWT v Centrals?

Re: SANFL 2011 and Leagues Championship Cup
How well did Centrals and the Eagles do when the SANFL was a half decent competition? 6k for a preliminary final for supposedley the best competition outside the AFL? That's amatuerish. That tells me that not many people in SA care that much about the SANFL anymore. I remember seeing footage of grand finals in the 50s or 60s or whenever it was and the crowd would spill over onto the boundary, there would have been 50 or 60k at those games at least. And yet 6k today?

I'm not sure why they keep playing the minor finals at AAMI. Would have thought the local grounds would be able to cope with the crowds, and 7 or 8k at AAMI looks shithouse.

Re: SANFL 2011 and Leagues Championship Cup
Interesting stat.....the 2011 SANFL Preliminary Final @ AAMI Stadium drew just 6,518 in what turned out to be a low quality contest really. Compare that to the 1982 Prelim Final when 32,339 turned up on a wet day to see Glenelg win a good quality game (watch the highlight's on YouTube and you'll see what I mean) by a single point (13.12 (90) to 14.5 (89)) and end Port Adelaide's run of premierships (Port won in '79, '80 and '81).
In 29 years the Prelim Final crowd has dropped to only 20% of what it once was. Sad really, crowds dropped initially after the Crows entered the AFL in 1991, revived a bit when Port won 6 premierships in the 90s yet have dropped miserably since Centrals started dominating in 2000. People just aren't going to watch Centrals play finals football because they're sick of them winning (more to the point, we're sick of our teams losing to them).
SANFL GF Average Crowd 1970-79 - 54,934 (1970-73 played at the Adelaide Oval)
SANFL GF Average Crowd 1980-89 - 50,427 - A drop of 9% from 70-79 (seats added to Football Park outer restricting capacity to about 55,000)
SANFL GF Average Crowd 1990-99 - 43,546 - A drop of 14% from 80-89 and 21% since 70-79
SANFL GF Average Crowd 2000-09 - 30,281 - A drop of 31% from 90-99, 40% since 80-89 and 45% since 70-79
Sure, the SANFL COULD impose some restrictions on Centrals but why? I mean, surely it should be up to the other 8 clubs to lift their game to get to the standard the Bulldogs have set which makes the league better all round. Easier said than done though.
Either way, I hope for the SANFL's sake they draw a crowd of over 35,000 today, though going on past Dogs v Eagles GF's.....5 time's they've met in the big one with the largest crowd being 34,819 back in 2000 and an average crowd of just 27,834.
