Re: AFL 2010
Never going to happen. if the SANFL changes to AFL-SA, it dies. All of its marketing is based on its historical links to communities and its 'real-ness' compared to the 'plastic' feel of going to an AFL game (8,000 fans split between 2 competing teams apparently is more fun than the collesium atmosphere of 40,000 old nana's(AFC) or 25,000 toothless ferals(PAPs) all barracking for the same team.the point of differentiation is money in the SANFL pocket. Unless the AFL discover vast reserves of natural gas under Docklands stadium and become Qatar-like in their ability to pull strings by splashing vast amounts of dollars around, I just don't see it happening, SA-lians are a parochial and proud bunch don't ya know:)beastjim wrote:Velcome to the dark side. Only SA and WA to fall into the line my pretties.

this years tag line "your Tribe is calling" It is successful despite Centrals dominating the comp every year,
I can't speak for WA, but going on crowd figures and media coverage, the SANFL has its own section and beat writers(Warren Partland) in the Advertiser(Local Footy) and I didn't see that when I lived in WA as recently as 2008

We can have the same debate again in 2041 when it occurs again.

Looks like North Melb get to play in Hobart after all:

Will be interesting to see if a Hawks vs Roos rivalry develops based on North & South Tassie.

They'll do some hard work in Hobart for 4 years then trade it in for a coke and a hot dog.

State Government initial reaction is that they know nothing about it and haven't been approached to fund anything. Not that they have any funds anyway. They are broke.
Interesting that the nett take that North want is about $0.5M a game less than they wanted a couple of months ago.
