Re: Australian baseball
What's the connection between the franchises and the state/territory associations. Given that Perth Heat was the Claxton Shield side, there might be a lot of overlap where Heat staff perform the same job for Baseball WA. The same overlap may not exist for other clubs meaning they cannot afford as much staff.
The other thing is that everyone has a similar budget but Perth have their sh*t together so they appear bigger.

Re: Australian baseball
Look at every webpage, there is loads of sponsors of the Heat(especially compared to the other clubs), you can hire out a corporate box...I haven't seen any of that. Ticket prices for seats are at $25 (higher than the rest of the competition). they do have some $10 seats but this is for GA...all tickets at the other venues are GA.Jeffles wrote:What's the connection between the franchises and the state/territory associations. Who needs staff when you can just wing it. Who needs a marketing department when you can just get the couple of hardcore fans to make the adverts for you. Brisbane Bandits already trying to win the most dysfunctional organisation award, although perhaps Canberra will give them a run for their money.

Re: Australian baseball
Would seem the Bandits did finally get the RNA Showgrounds as their venue. Not that you would know by looking at their website. Although they did ask for Volunteers to come along and help build the home ground, you had to bring your own shovel to help, just didn't say where that ground was.
Thinking of heading along to the second home game, I shouldn't go to the first, I have an exam the next morning at 8am.

Re: Australian baseball
I was going to say it looks a lot like the never built Cisco Field. Too big, even for the Melbourne public's proclaimed love of sport.
Maracanã in Perth? And just yesterday Mike Rann (South Aussie Premier.....) announced a 50,000 seat upgrade for Hindmarsh Stadium lol

Re: Australian baseball
The season launch seems to have gotten a reasonable amount of publicity. Tickets for the Sydney team going very well - all season tickets sold out (albeit only 500) and apparently some games already sold out. Just maybe the ABL will be able to carve out a little niche in the Australian professional sporting landscape and survive?

Was reading an article on the Herald Sun site.. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/major ... 5944880956
The Melbourne Showgrounds has a capacity of about 4,300 seats. They've sold 1,300 for the first game in a month's time.
