The judge also criticised authorities for keeping Fraser in the Adelaide Remand Centre for the past two years despite his psychological problems which included numerous attempts to commit suicide.

He said his detention meant it was difficult for Fraser to receive treatment for his problems.

Police identify Melbourne shooting suspect

Monday Jun 18 18:00 AEST

By ninemsn staff and wires

Police have released the name of a man who is suspected of killing a Melbourne lawyer and wounding two other people in the city's CBD this morning.

Police named 29-year-old Christopher Wayne Hudson early this evening after earlier refusing to release details about the suspect.

The Nine Network reported that Hudson was a member of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang.

Earlier today a gunman shot dead a 43-year-old Melbourne solicitor who went to help a woman in distress.

The lawyer, Brendan Keilar from East Hawthorn, was one of two men who went to the aid of the woman seen struggling with a man near a taxi on the corner of Flinders Lane and William Street, in Melbourne's CBD.

Mr Keilar was blasted in the chest at point blank range and died at the scene an hour later, despite the efforts of paramedics to revive him.

The gunman fled on foot after the 8.15am (AEST) shooting and police later found a handgun at a nearby construction site, which was believed to be that used in the incident.

As heavily-armed police searched for the shooter, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, office workers were told to stay put and not panic.

The gunman also shot and wounded the woman, reportedly his girlfriend, and the second man who tried to intervene in the dispute.

The wounded man, who is in his 30s, is in a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The 24-year-old woman is in a serious, but stable condition. Both have gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and have had emergency surgery.

The gunman, described as unshaven and dishevelled, had reportedly just come from the Barcode nightclub in nearby King St where he had been involved in a fight with another woman.

Witnesses told police there was an argument outside the club just 10 minutes before the triple shooting.

Detective Inspector Stephen Clark said it was not known what sparked the altercation.

Police say the killer is aged in his late 20s or early 30s with short brown hair. He is about 180cm tall and was wearing dark denim jeans and a dark Adidas jacket.

'She was powerless'

An eye witness told Southern Cross Radio he saw a woman being dragged from the cab by her hair on the corner of William St and Flinders Lane about 8.15am.

"She was powerless. A couple of guys came to assist … he eventually pulled out a gun."

"He shot one of the guys twice. Then he shot the woman and then the other guy."

"After the shooting, he just casually walked away."

Another witness, Malcolm Bates, said before the shooting broke out the gunman grabbed a woman by the neck as she sat in a taxi, and tried to get into the vehicle.

"The lady got away and he turned, and shot three people basically point blank," Mr Bates said. "I was right across the road."

He told ABC radio the gunman then ran down Flinders Lane toward the city centre.

He said the whole scenario took no longer than "the wink of an eye".

Bystander Ross Murchie said he saw the gunman grabbing a woman by the neck and hair.

"She was screaming and a guy had her by the hair," Mr Murchie told ABC radio.

"She tried to grab hold of a taxi that was going by and the couple of bystanders went over to ask what was happening.

"He let go of her hair, pulled out a gun and shot them all."

Eyewitness Zali said the gunman was "as cool as a cucumber" as he cold-bloodedly blasted his victims.

"He just went bang, bang, bang, there was no mucking around," she told ABC radio.

"There were five shots fired and the people went straight down to the ground. There wasn't even a scream, just a whimper."

Weapon found

Police have confirmed a builder found a gun at a construction site on the corner of Queen and Flinders streets — one block from the site of the shooting.

A black jacket was also found with the gun.

Police Inspector Glenn Weir said a witness had found the gun and reported it to police.

"It was found by a witness and communicated to the police," he told Southern Cross Radio.

He said the witness had not seen the shooter.

"I understand he's located the firearm and not the person."

"(It was) a handgun I can confirm and there are reports that it's a semi-automatic handgun but I can't confirm that."

Inspector Weir said it appeared the shooting was a domestic incident between the shooter and the female taxi passenger, and not a gang-related or random act.

He said the two male victims appeared to be good samaritans who had stopped to come to the woman's aid as she struggled with the shooter in the street.

Melbourne lockdown

Melbourne's city centre was in lockdown this morning as police searched the area for the gunman, with offices sealed off and people kept away from nearby workplaces.

Police wearing bullet-proof vests scoured the area, and police helicopters hovered overhead. Led by the Special Operations Group, police also conducted rooftop searches of city buildings.

Police sealed the city between William, Flinders, Collins and Spencer streets.

Cherie Harding, a worker in the Rialto building opposite the shooting scene, said several of her colleagues heard up to four shots.

Ms Harding said she saw ambulances at the scene and stretchers being used to transport patients.

"There are a few people here who heard them (gunshots)," she said.

Pool cue prank backfires to end in agony
Article from: AAP

July 23, 2007 07:17pm

A MAN rammed a pool cue into the rectum of a drunken friend with such force it snapped off, leaving 31 centimetres stuck inside his bowel, the Tasmanian Supreme Court in Hobart has been told.

Roofer Matthew Noel Triffett, 21, who'd previously pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm, was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to perform 140 hours of community service.

Before passing sentence today, Justice Ewan Crawford said he'd intended jailing Triffett immediately, but the fact that he co-operated with police, pleaded guilty early and was well regarded by his employer, were mitigating circumstances.

"It was a criminally reckless act, but a momentary one, committed stupidly by a very drunk man who thought it funny at the time, without real malevolence for the complainant," Justice Crawford said.

The court was told Triffett had drunk alcohol at various locations around Hobart to celebrate the birthday of one of two friends with him at the time.

Justice Crawford said the trio ended up at the Village Green Tavern, east of Hobart, where the complainant crashed to the floor with his buttocks exposed while his friend ran around the pub in the nude.

He said Triffett had used considerable force to thrust the cue into the man's anus, including lateral force, because it snapped in two.

"What he (Triffett) did excites disgust and horror," Justice Crawford said.

He said Triffett thought it was a big joke until the full extent of what he had done was revealed.

In crippling pain, the complainant went home and removed the cue from his rectum.

Unable to tolerate the agony any longer, he went to Royal Hobart Hospital three days later and underwent immediate surgery for a perforated colon.

His body waste had been emptying into his body cavity, which could have killed him, Justice Crawford said.

The injured man was discharged from hospital three weeks later but he had to return later for further surgery to have a colostomy bag removed.

Justice Crawford said the complainant had since suffered intense and on-going pain.

Council sex-for-favours scandal
Email Print Normal font Large font August 22, 2007 - 10:16AM

A former western Sydney council official engaged in corrupt conduct by taking sexual favours and up to $40,000 from sex workers and brothel operators, the NSW corruption watchdog has found.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) made the findings against Wade Fryar, who was sacked from Parramatta Council as a result of an investigation in February 2007.

The report found that between 2003 and February 2007, Mr Fryar received free sexual services from at least five prostitutes and up to $40,000 in corrupt payments from brothel operators.

In return, Mr Fryar did not take action against them for using unauthorised premises for prostitution, the report found.

The ICAC also found that on some occasions Mr Fryar had warned brothel operators that a council inspection was to be carried out.

"Although Mr Fryar deliberately manipulated the system, it had elements that gave him the opportunity to act corruptly without detection for several years," ICAC Commissioner Jerrold Cripps QC said.

The ICAC also made corruption findings against the sex workers and brothel operators who gave the benefits to Mr Fryar.

Mr Cripps said the matter should now be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide if criminal charges could be laid.

What happens when a Kiwi crosses a typical Queensland teenage chick -

Girl in court over testicle attack
HUN September 06, 2007

A DRUNKEN schoolgirl kicked a New Zealand man in the testicles for pronouncing her name incorrectly, a court was told today.

Megan Jane Conroy from Sandstone Point north of Brisbane, sobbed in the dock in the Brisbane District Court today as she pleaded guilty to assault.

The court was told she arrived home early on May 13 last year to find the complainant and a group of her mother's friends celebrating a birthday. Conroy, then aged 17, asked the 40-year-man if he was "a Kiwi", and told him to "get f***ed" when he said yes.

She was then offended when he pronounced her name "Maegan" instead of "Megan" and kneed him in the groin and demanded he say it correctly. She pushed him against the wall and kicked him in the testicles before he apologised.

Conroy let him go after trying to kick him a third time. The man was treated for severe bruising and tenderness to his testicles.

The court was told Conroy was drunk at the time and the behaviour was out of character. She was released on a $200, six-month good behaviour bond and no conviction was recorded.

just awesome (and stolen from SFCU):
Vacuum and toilet cleaner sex aid burglar avoids jail

By Christine Flatley
September 19, 2007 03:55pm

A MAN who broke into his neighbour's home west of Brisbane and used her vacuum cleaner and a detergent bottle as sex aids has avoided jail.

Jamie Thomas Lacey, 27, was high on LSD and amphetamines when he broke into the house at Millmerran in September 2004.

He pleaded guilty today in the Brisbane District Court to burglary and wilful damage.

The court was told his neighbour returned home on September 29 to find her bathroom in a total state of disarray.

Crown prosecutor Julie Aylward told the court pornographic magazines and clothes were strewn around the room, and that a makeshift sex aid constructed from a Toilet Duck bottle, a piece of wood and a latex glove had also been left behind.

The woman's vacuum cleaner had also been left in the bathroom.

Lacey's defence barrister, Shaun Gordon, argued there was no proof his client had used the vacuum cleaner as a sex aid, but Judge Tony Rafter said it was unlikely it had been used for cleaning.

"I'm sure that your client didn't hoover the carpets,'' he said.

Police attended Lacey's house just days after the incident was reported.

During the search police uncovered a black carry bag filled with condoms, gloves, creams and a tapered wooden stick.

Lacey told police it was his "masturbation bag'', but denied any knowledge of the burglary.

He was arrested in December 2006 after police finally matched his DNA to that found on the latex glove attached to the Toilet Duck bottle.

He later told police he had vague recollections of the offence, but said his memory was jumbled as he had been a heavy drug user at the time.

Mr Gordon told the court his client had since cleaned up his life and that he was now the father of a seven-month-old child.

He told the court his client had held down a good job at Kilcoy Pastoral Company for two years, and Judge Rafter agreed it would be counter-productive to send him to jail.

Judge Rafter sentenced him to 12 months' jail, which he ordered to be served in the community as an Intensive Correction Order.

First-class lounge porn download arrest

Jonathan Pearlman
September 24, 2007 - 11:32AM

A man has been arrested for allegedly downloading child porn in a first-class airport lounge in view of other passengers.

Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Roman Quaedvlieg said the 44-year-old man had been downloading child pornography in the first-class lounge at Melbourne Airport on Friday.

He was using a free access computer at a desk and was overseen by passers-by.

The commissioner said the man had IT expertise and had been able to circumvent the lounge's computer firewalls.

His home in Naremburn, Sydney, was searched and a computer and CDs were seized.

Police allege at least 57 images were downloaded at the airport and stored on the computer's hard drive.

The man has been charged with using a carriage service to access child pornography material, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
A definite starter, even if he is a bit of a wanker.

Who will he represent, NSW or Victoria?
