To be honest, some of the power brokers had been wanting her to do it for about the last 2 weeks, but she was staying loyal. Then the PM's department leaked something which called her disloyal and she had, had enough. The timeframe is very crazy, but decisive to say the least.

Newspoll 2PP of 61-39 in favour of the Coalition in NSW with an ALP primary of 25. Poll taken during a bad time and they'd recover. It's only newsworthy because it sets a statistical record. I can't see the ALP getting a primary of less than 35% at the election and I can't see 2PP being any worse that 54-46.

What's more interesting is news at the local level, to the other inner-westies on this forum. Sylvia Hale, Greens MLC indicated she was going to retire but now she is challenging Marrickville Deputy Mayor Fiona Byrne for Greens preselection for the seat of Marrickville, held by Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt. I think Carmel's seat is safe - just - but Sylvia has sniffed a chance at making history and wants to step in. This is the woman who changed party whilst on Marrickville Council. And another thing, she's 70 years of age! One thing in her favour is that she has a higher profile than Fiona Byrne.

It's a funny cultrual thing we have in Australia that people are fit to govern us up to about 62 years of age then they absolutely drop off a cliff after that. Meanwhile in the states it's not uncommon for seantors to be in their 80s and 90s (and returned to government).

Senator Robert Byrd (D - KKK) just died in office at the age of 92 and was replaced as President pro tempore of the Senate by a sprightly 86 year old.

I think it's a way of her giving over a safe LC seat and putting pressure on Carmel in a no-lose situation. If she wins, great; if she loses, she was retiring anyway.

Carmel's a genuinely good local member though and a good minister and deputy Premier. She is someone I'd hate to see lose to a grandstanding Green who's running a completely opportunistic campaign.

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way,
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, Hurry boy, It's waiting there for you

Latest polls are intersting, showing there's still quite a strong labor vote across the nation.

Image

It appears the red labor left vote is strongest in the Pilbara, Kalgoorlie and Cooper basin - I'll never trust a poll again.

Gotta love the hoops you jump through to get those Labor benefits. Can someone give me $500,000 to raise a child so I can take Julia's (my) $800 for school uniforms? For f**k's sake.

Indeed. My brother saw some of Albo's team putting up corflute posters last night.
