2015 Asian Cup

Post by Simmo79 »

THE ASIAN Football Confederation have given Football Federation Australia a three-month extension for their AFC Asian Cup 2015 bid.
Originally set for March 2010, the revised deadline of June 30 has been granted by the region's governing body.
AFC say it provides FFA further opportunity to continue discussions with relevant parties in Australia such as government and other stakeholders.

"[In order] to formalise the relevant guarantees and facility agreements, which are part of the bid submission," reported AFC today.
This will be followed by FFA's final presentation of their bid to the AFC Executive Committee on July 30, 2010.
AFC officials ran their eye over Australia's prospective stadiums and facilities last September - a trip that included taking in some live A-League games.

Australia were the only country to put in an intensive bid to host the 2015 edition of the continental showcase before AFC's deadline of March, 2008.
In other Asian Cup news, should Australia qualify for the 2011 edition in Qatar, the FFA are still deciding on whether to continue to run regular A-League fixture scheduling through January.

A-League-based players may be required for the Socceroos in the tournament that runs from January 7 to 29.
A-League supremo Archie Fraser told au.fourfourtwo.com: "We are working through this and a number of other factors on the draw for season six."
Should the A-League run next January while the Asian Cup is on? Of course it f***ing should.

2015 Asian Cup is off everybody’s radar ATM. Which grounds are slated to be used?

Apparently I can answer my own question:
the FFA have already shortlisted stadiums for the bid they are:

ANZ Stadium,

Sydney Football Stadium,

Parramatta Stadium,

Etihad Stadium

New Rectangular Stadium.

Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane,

Skilled Park on the Gold Coast

Canberra Stadium in Canberra.
Adelaide and Perth missed out because of inadequate seating capacity at rectangular grounds. So it will be east coast affair only.

It will be held in January 2015.

they are hoping for the southern stand to go ahead at Parra. They have tried not to spread the comp out too much Canberra being the only exception to this. Final reports are being done for issuing to AFC.

My feelings on that waste of expansion are well known. Bloody Parra and their requests for expansion. Who do they think they are - St George?

Come on... it's not as if the federal and state governments have spent over $50m or so on our facilities in the past decade.

Oh, hang on.

Well at least we're not still trying to score another $10m to finish the grandstand extensions at KoJu.

sh*t.

Members Equity Stadium now seats 20,000. Parramatta Stadium only holds 20,000 as well...

AFC's Stadium Requirements stipulate that temporary stands are not permitted which leaves ME bank Stadium out of the running for inclusion as an Asian Cup venue.

The seating capacity of Parramatta Stadium is 20,857.

MES also doesn't *seat* all of its spectators - you'd lose the terraces, which I'm not sure glory fans would be all that pleased about.

Besides, do you really want games between Kuwait and Uzbekistan?

Ahh I see, didn't realise that terracing was banned for the Asian Cup. No I'm not worried about the Asian Cup at all. Was just wondering on why the requirement of 20,000 capacity stadiums ruled out Perth.

But now I see that terracing is not incorporated.

Terracing eventually goes if stadium funding ever becomes a priority in Perth...
