NRL expansion
Soon the National Rugby League will consider adding two new teams into the competition. Quite a few teams are competing for inclusion.
Teams: Home stadium
Brisbane Bombers: Suncorp Stadium
Ipswich Jets: New stadium in Springfield (finals at Suncorp Stadium)
Central Coast Bears: Central Coast Stadium (one at North Sydney Oval)
Central Queensland: Rockhampton
Southern NZ: Westpac Stadium, others on South Island
Papua New Guinea: TBC
West Coast Pirates: Perth Oval (Finals possibly at Burswood)
These bids are effective November 2012. Personally I want to see the Bears and the Pirates in this competition as the latter will make this game a truly national competition. And the Bears coming back will hopefully bring some disenchanted supporters back to our game once again. The Pirates also could have a following similar to the storm as popularity for Rugby in Perth is growing. South Sydney have already got a huge supporter base there and during the AFL Semi-Final in Perth earlier this year between Fremantle and Port Adelaide, the cameras saw quite a few people in the crowd wearing Souths Guernseys. So my preferred teams coming into this game are the Central Coast Bears and the WA Pirates whats yours?

Re: NRL expansion
Ch 9 would be lobbying very heavily for a team in Perth I would have thought.
And if there's a second team started up in Brisbane that would spell real trouble for the Gold Coast. More from a corporate sponsorship point of view than a reduction in crowds. Titans have already managed the crowd reduction themselves.

Re: NRL expansion
PNG presents challenges, and would likely survive on subsidies. On a purely socio-cultural level I'd like them in though. Because the country truly is f***ed.
Rockhampton for something different, and it's time that the funds of professional, commercial era football filter in to regional communities like we were all promised 30 years ago. Before the players got their "fair share."

Just a small point but the stadium site in Springfield is the site thet the Lions got to develop into their training site. I know it has hit some political/legal problems but as far as I know it is still in the Lions hands.

Port Moresby would be great. Rugby League is getting bigger by the year here.

Never mind the f***ed economy and general lawlessness - it's not as if we don't already have a team in Newcastle.
I'll see myself out.

Big tick for png is if you unleash the Cronulla boys you're not likely to do any more damage.

Re: NRL expansion
I've heard rumors of a second Melbourne team, possibly owned by a AFL team, being considered by the NRL
