Temporary seats do the same job of seating nobody, but at a fraction of the price of building new. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe you should just slap the word 'social' on it so the big bad real world can finally understand the urgency of your half arsed pipe dreams.
Bugger!! I knew we shouldn't have wasted money building that new rectangular stadium next to Olympic Park. Some temporary seats and corporate facilities either at Olympic Park, Bob Jane or Epping would have more than done the job!

That's an odd comment. Melbourne needed a new rectangular stadium, on the basis that it..... didn't have one. Perth has one and it serves Perth's needs quite well. Rip 8,000 seats out and it still serves Perth Glory well.
An incremental approach is the best way to go for Perth given the in fighting. It looks cheaper and it would probably mean work would start quicker. If the Farce are selling out the existing corporate hospitality areas and there is a waiting list, that makes a case for providing extra corporate hospitality areas beyond the temporary marquee.

The incremental approach should be the default until there's a justifiable reason to go beyond that. It works very well financially for clubs. Season ticket holders renew after 3 sh*t seasons because they don't want to watch the good times from the back of the line. Sure you don't make sales at the top end but it's more than made up for by cost savings, which may or may not feed back in to football operations as well.
Where is the demand for a brand new venue? 2 tenants - one that fills half the current stadium, and another that was born yesterday and feels entitled to something that aussie rules doesn't have. Want public money? Get in line.

So it serves Perth's needs by not being up to AFC or FIFA Standards?
What are the point of temporary stands? To be used as normal stands forever?
Anyways I am pretty sure this is a wind up. We lose out on events, the media facilities aren't big enough for more than 2 radio stations and a TV crew and if the Force had been a team based out of Brisbane or Sydney they would have built them a stadium in excess of demand.
We disregard finals as a legitimate case of demand?
Anyways it doesn't matter, the government will deliver any excuse possible to delay redevelopment of a stadium.
Yeah yeah, spend a million here, million there, fill it once and it was money well spent because 'social' things don't cost anything. Here's one that will do your head in - landing a man on Mars is a social thing too. Whoops, no money for stadiums.

Oh and when there is apparently a desire to get a better venue according to your standards Yob, it will cost twice as much.
Temporary North West Terrace at Kogarah Oval.
Built 2003, still going strong.
Some of ours are getting on to be 13 years. Kogarah has had more money spent on it then MES. Only $9 million of taxpayers money has gone into MES.
Its ok for those who have never visited the venue, but those of us who get caught up in the elements of either heat stroke or drenched from the rain, while also having to deal with a sub-standard venue can suffer because there is no demand.
Definitely a need and a desire to finally bridge the massive gap between stadiums in WA and the rest of the country. There is no reason why West Australians should continue to have to put up with shitty venues.

Hey Egan, what international events will a world class 25,000 seat stadium attract?
I can think of maybe a socceroos game against Laos or Nepal. Perhaps the Wallabies vs some pissant pacific island. Both of which are worth about $3.45 to the WA economy.
