Well not every rink has to have a team. You need to be realistic I suppose.

Having said that, I'd like to see the teams playing games in more parts of Sydney than just the north west. Not all the rinks are up to scratch but Macquarie Centre and Liverpool I'm told are pretty good.

Just posting inform the uninformed that we are about a third of the way through the season....

The ladder 10-12 games in (due to an uneven fixture and double points games)

Code: Select all

Team	GP	W	L	T	SOW	SOL	PTS	GF	GA
Melbourne	10	8	1	0	0	1	25	35	18
Adelaide	11	7	3	0	1	0	23	38	29
Newcastle	12	6	5	0	1	0	20	51	41
Brisbane	13	7	5	0	0	1	19	58	54
Bears	12	6	5	0	1	0	17	41	32
West Sydney	10	5	5	0	0	0	12	37	33
Canberra	12	2	9	0	0	1	7	24	43
Central Coast	10	1	9	0	0	0	3	21	55
As you can see, the Ice are dominating. I'm going again this sunday to see them take on the Bears and to pick up the t-shirt i designed for the club so i can stick it in my yr 12 VCAD folio.

The league seems to be getting a bit more professional this year, most clubs have rebranded themselves - Avalanche, Knights and Ice and add that to already strongly branded teams of Central Coast and Brisbane.

I'd really like to see the state of the league 10 years time. I would not be suprised if they managed to get a TV deal.

What i've learned of the Adelaide Avalanche:

1/ They go close to selling out some games. From memory, there's wooden bleachers along the eastern side, maybe 5 or 6 rows deep, the ends are inaccessible, and the western side is another rink. So maybe a capacity of around 300-400?

2/ Ticket prices are a rip.

3/ C31 broadcasts their home games.

4/ It's a pretty catchy name

5/ They have some pretty good sponsorship, including one of the top commercial radio stations.

6/ They've finished minor premier 4 of the 5 last years. And choked, every. single. time. I'm so proud of these guys!

Yeh, some of the venues are not the best, but they do the job - even a 2/3rd sized oakleigh.

Melbourne have prices at $12 for adults and $6 for kiddies. I think thats about the maximum you could ask someone to pay to watch.

Some of my mates have been to see the Canberra Knights play. Said they had fun and there was a general concensus that the rest of should tag along one time.

What are the full names of all the teams?

It's an even better name to come up with a logo for.

The AIHL refer to the Bears as either Penrith Bears or just the Bears. But can't find anything on the teams website about a name change.

I recommend this franchise move to Perth. They would be more appreciated there.
