The winning bid will be announced today.

Tokyo, Madrid, Chicago, Rio...

I hope Obamarama and Oprahmania doesn't push Chicago over the line...but its that or Tokyo for me.

It's all on the TV news here tonight. Everyone hoping Obama/Oprah will wing it. But still some think Rio. Altho Chicago mayor made comment that Olympics was nothing like doing the WC!!!

Didn't see Rio winning it.
I was under the impression that the IOC felt that the Olympics were more important than the FIFA World Cup and didn't want the Games to come after it.
It's good that there's no taboo.
Rio here I come!

ABC Radio said that Rio had to cancel a World Cup swim meet because of the lack of coin. Now they are going to have an Olympics.

Brave move but probably necessary. The Olympic movement has taken a beating with the controversy surrounding Salt Lake City and Beijing.

I wonder who put up the insurance money to secure the games?...i didnt think they had a chance as they would be still recovering from the 2014 WC.

I know the IOC always has a contingency plan just in case of disaster.

Wouldn't be suprised if it's a far more developed one for 2016. This has the potential to be the greatest debacle (and, to be fair, the greatest success story) in Olympic History.

Very interesting about how the funds for the Olympics are already secured.

Seems this stadium is going to be the main stadium for Rio. Currently holds 45,000 expandable to 60,000. Looks reasonably obvious that the ends will get the second tier to increase the size.

The infield is 5m wider and 6m longer than Skilled Stadium. Can we have one at Cararra and one in Adelaide for the World Cup and for their Commonwealth Games bids?

I thought you were against athletic tracks as football venues?

I'd prefer all rectangular stadiums but an athletics track width is OK because FIFA permits it but not an AFL width.
