North Island Stadiums
Here are various venues on the North Island I visited in November 2007
Queen Elizabeth Park, Masterton
Occasional venue of Central Districts Stags cricket
Memorial Park, Masterton
Home of AA rewards Heartland Championship side Wairarapa-Bush. This is the closest major town to the Tui Brewery.
I love this terracing!
The alternative to having palm trees behind the posts
McLean Park, Napier
Multi-purpose venue used for test and one day cricket as well as provincial rugby
The two home sides
Bluewater Stadium
Home ground of Hawkes Bay United of the NZFC it is located in the Park Island complex
Owen Delany Park, Taupo
One of the home grounds of Heartland Championship union King Country Rams
Quite an expansive ground oval, it features a grass running track and has a turf wicket
Rotorua International Stadium, Rotorua
The second venue of Bay of Plenty of the Air New Zealand Cup
The ground is set in a natural ampitheatre and features expansive grass hills
The shape suggests it may have had a speedway track at one stage. It is mult-purpose and features a softball diamond at the far end. Athletics is also held here
The expansive main stand
This shows just how massive the banks are
Baypark Stadium, Mt Maunganui
A combined speedway/rugby stadium, it was originally Bluechip Stadium
The main entry gates
Underneath the stand. Yes they are wooden boards!
There was a lot of red dirt/dust floating around suggesting there may have been a recent speedway event when I visited
Looking towards the corporate/media facilities.
This is the kind of view Sydney FC fans will have to expect come December 12 at Palmerston North as FMG Stadium also has a dirt speedway with a high safety perimeter fence
Main venue of the Steamers
Paeroa Domain, Paeroa
Better known as the hometown of iconic NZ soft drink L&P, it is also one of the home venues of Thames Valley of the Heartland Championship. One thing I found interesting was the further north I went the more Speight's, a beer from the South Island sponsored teams
Entrance to the Domain
The venue is quite agricultural and very rural NZ. You'd almost expect Dog from Footrot Flats to wonder across the field and Fred Dagg to be there with a thermos and lamb sanga to be watching a match
Things are quite basic here
Running track etched into the field and tyres surrounding the lights
Te Aroha Domain, Te Aroha
This is another ground of the Swamp Foxes
Seddon Park, Hamilton
I'm pretty sure Jeffles has posted some pics before but here is a few more. When I dropped by they were in the process of installing the temporary seats they have on part of the outer
Players entry from the Pavillion
Home ground of the Knights for most games
Waikato Stadium, Hamilton
The Super 14 Chiefs, Air New Zealand Cup Waikato and until this season, NZFC Waikato FC called this ground their home
Although slightly cut-off there is an entrance gate in a Māori design
WEL Networks stand
Looking down the pitch in football configuration. The end where this photo was taken from sometimes has a temporary stand to boost capacity
Brian Perry Stand
The Growers Stadium, Pukekohe
The daylight venue of Counties Manukau in the Air New Zealand Cup. Night matches are at Mt Smart. The field is built into the side of a hill
The main stand uses the hill to full effect
The field isn't enclosed properly and has wide open grass expanses
The north or bottom entrance opens up pretty much onto the playing arena for fans to walk to either side of the ground
The entry to the stand is from the top of the hill on the side road
Cobham Oval, Whangarei
Sometimes venue of Northern Districts cricket
It is one of the two venues in Okara Park. The rugby stadium is in the background
Newish pavillion replicating old English style
ITM Stadium, Whangarei
The main stand
A massive grass bank and seating form the outer
A velodrome surrounds the playing field
The natural contours of the land provide a spectacular viewpoint for spectators
An entry gate
The naming rights sponsor of the time
In 1979 for a Ranfurly Shield defence 40,000 crammed into a 25,000 capacity ground in a town with a population of 34,000

Thanks for the pic s you lucky bastard. We could really beef up the NZ section of this website with them.
Rotorua and Tauranga were locked when I went. I also couldn't believe the wooden boards at the latter. Fortunately I have a pic of Tauranga City United AFC's ground. It reminds me of Perry Park in Brisbane.
Taupo and Whangarei are great cricket venues. Amazed they aren't used more for internationals.
