"The asymmetric design sets it apart from other new stadia, as it is a clear move away from what is becoming the traditional bowl model. It recognises and makes reference to the fact that English football grounds were historically asymmetric. We make no apologies for that, we've gone out of our way to embrace that culture and it works
exceptionally well for both the new ground and its location within Stanley Park. This new design will be unmistakably Liverpool and instantly recognisable as our stadium.

it's rubbish of course - the best english grounds in my opinion (aside from anfield) were probably old trafford (essentially the same all the way round since the early 90s), st james park (ditto), highbury (until the north stand was built and the clock end seated and boxed, the east and west stands were essentially the same and the north bank and the clock end were both just big banked terraces). all were pretty well symmetrical. even the old stamford bridge with its stand on each side and then enormous terraces around the dog track was somewhat symmetrical.

and that's before you get to the big daddy of them all, wembley...

all that said, the internals are quite nice (though the render job looks like some bugger's been playing with google sketchup) and the externals... you can't see them from the inside, so it's all good.

Symmetrical doesn't always work, eg GABBA.

While things that aren't always have character or some interesting features that you wouldn't find elsewhere.

for a start - what's wrong with the gabba?

for seconds - what's wrong with symmetry? i get the complaint with totally identikit stadia like some of portugal's euro 2004 stadia and ashburton grove, but where there is a bit of character and symmetry, surely that's not an issue - i.e. maracana, athens olympic stadium, westfalenstadion, suncorp stadium (just for a homegrown example)...

Most boring and bland stadium in Australia, while in the old GABBA the fantastic roof it has was notable and you could stare it. This feature for me has been lost with the fact the stadium is now surrounded with a mixture of Subiaco Oval/SCG influences and while it was once a stand like the Lillee Marsh Stand that really took your breath away as a stand alone facility, has gone. The WACA is great because the Lillee Marsh is so simple, yet it doesn't extend around the whole ground. The new stand proposed at the WACA looks great because it makes a statement on half the ground. Unless the GABBA ever puts another tier, it doesn't even have the aura of being a large stadium. Sometimes something so good, you need to minimise to enhance the value of how good a stand something is, eg Lille Marsh, Great Southern, Ladies Stand...

It is now just a stadium, that is rarely full, has a few construction faults (eg the huge amount of seats that are impeded by the TV screens).

Suncorp is fantastic because it blends the old with the new and it is not totally symetrical.

Athens Olympic Stadium - pass, don't rate it.

Maracana - Legendary for what happens on the pitch and the character spills over into the stands, a bland stadium otherwise.

Not to familiar with westfalenstadion.

After much tit for tat with government levels the current Everton plans for moving to Kirkby have been rejected. It seems a win for Nimbyism, but it's hard to tell from however far we are away from the North West of England.

Government reject Everton's Kirkby stadium plans

Everton's ambition of moving to a new home in Kirkby appears to be over after the government rejected a planned £400m stadium and retail development.
I personally think they need to get into bed with Liverpool. If the two Milan teams can share a ground, then so can the two Liverpool teams. Build a kop at each end and make one blue and the other red. Plus it would actually be a massive boost for the World Cup bid in England....
