the councilers thought that an entire millenium would just be too much.Council leaders approved a 999-year lease on Friday for a piece of land in the city's Stanley Park, just 300 yards away from their Anfield home.

factoid: here in the ACT, there is no private ownership of residential land. It's all owned by the ACT and all blocks are portioned out on 99-year leases.
Tell ya mates.
On LFC - they've been waiting a while for this. Didn't know they had the finance sorted out.
Here's a forum where the Reds have been talking about their new ground for a few years: - http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/ind ... &board=7.0

Still very far from a done deal.
They have only been allowed to build it. There is still the small matter of raising the insane levels of funding required, around £ 200 million, I think, and that for Liverpool, where its more difficult than for a big London club.
Its hard to understand why stadiums are so much more expensive in England.
It will be interesting to see what happens if Liverpool cannot raise the money. The deadline is sometime this month.
It wouldnt be all that bad, I dont think, as it certainly seems possible to develop Anfield despite the clubs comments about that.
The alternative would be to entertain the idea of groundsharing with Everton, but it would have to be an absolute last resort, I think.
Should it happen, it would be interesting to see if it had any knock-on effects if one club took the unthinkable step. Tottenham might be next.
Cant really see it happening, though.
The only controversial thing I would predict is for Wembely to be sold within a few years to Chelsea
