I don't know if I have heard correct information but I have been told that a large number of immigrants from those lands to Australia are South African Jews. Is that the case for Perth or is that just Sydney and in particular St Ives?

Probably just the case of St Ives...I haven't met any jewish South Africans as of yet

The two Seth Afrikan chicks that I talk to are coloured - which is unusual in itself...as 90% are White.

But Stadium Seagull is probably the expert in South African Demographics...

You mean Coloured as in being of mixed-race or Indian extraction? Or as in black African?

Btw they sound exotic.

I know my South African colouring systems...I do live in Perth and was a country freak.

Coloured - In Indian descent, mixed race.

I think they are still called this, I don't know the political correct term, maybe Dyson can correct me?

Ok, quick South African racial breakdown for words and meanings.

We all know white and black.

But white is broken into Afrikaans and English and have very different cultures and outlooks in general...in durban there are basically no afrikaans people and all indians speak english...as such we are the most english south african city (we have 1 million indians in durban, largest indian population outside india in one city)

Indian refers to people that come from indian extraction.

Black is also divided in different cultural groups, about 13, with Zulu the most prominent.

"Coloured" can be broken into two groups... Coloured being mixed race of any form...and Cape Malay...people that have grown up into their own cultural group and have a distinctive look about themselves. they are only in the western cape.

Sounds racist to those that dont understand the intricities of south african life, but calling someone by these terms is in no way racist here.

As a follow up to their 2007 Cricket World Cup article, the SMH had a feature on the 2010 FIFA World Cup stadiums.

Haven't these people heard of the term "fashionably late"?

For anyone with foxtel, National Geographic have been airing a program called "Build Up to the Cup" which looks broadly at the design and construction on Green Point, Moses Mabhida and Soccer City. Kind of portrays how freakin close they could have been to cocking up big time with the schedule!
