I didn't know that one...yet another reason to avoid the watermelons..besides the vote for the Greens is a vote for Labour deal they always do cheers.dibo wrote:The Greens' policy on airports is hilarious. They don't want Wilton, they don't want Badgery's Creek, they want to close Kingsford Smith. So a city of 4 million+ people should have no airport.Adelaide_United_Red wrote:"I can't believe there's anyone dumb enough to believe a word this government says. In fact it's quite remarkable that even 29% of voters are putting their hand up for Labor."
Scarier than that is the 9% who think the Watermelons are worth voting for.
Yes a Watermelon is Green on the outside, but you'll notice how Red they are under the surface. Being a minor party they often escape proper media scrutiny of their policies, but to me some of their policies are bat-sh*t scary. Things like disbanding the defence force and allocating that money to foreign aid...could only have been dreamed up in the fantasy happy/hippy world of those who have ‘lived life’ solely in the tute room of a liberal arts degree. The last thing this country needs as we navigate the final tricky part of theglobal downturn is a party that is ideolohgically opposed to business. The strength of the Hawke Keating era was their ability to balance union demands while still engaging with businesses to promote investment in our economy. I'm usually a Lib voter, but I'd love(or wouldn't mind) having PK back in charge of the Treasury. Especially when the alternative is Swan:(

Canberra Airport CEO is jumping up and down for high speed rail so we can serve as Sydney's second airport. In certain respects it does make sense. But ultimately rail is only nation building when it moves freight. Otherwise it's just duplication of a tried and true, safer, faster, profitable, more efficient mode of transport - air travel.Boba Fett wrote:But they're quite happy to spend $100bn on a high speed rail system.
Put it on the list of transplants from other countries that the public sector blindly copies with no consideration of context. See: light rail, CBD stadiums, urban growth boundaries...

Just needs the Libs to front up the cash as well.
Julia will certainly not be handing it out.
Come on Tony. We know you want to.

HSR makes sense if you have higher desities of population as in Europe. IIRC the air corridor between SYD/MEL is the world's third busiest. I hate flying, there's just nothing enjoyable about being treated like a crim from the moment you enter the terminal until you arrive at your destination. But lets be honest. With the aviation related unions likely to be put out of work if Joe businessman could get on a train At Spencer Street and use onboard wifi all the way to Sydney getting off at Central 4-5 hours later for a comparible fare. No govt is going to 'find' the billions required for HSR. Its a dream of those who do not understand that we are not Europe. Nobody understands we are not Europe like a football fan;)yob wrote:Canberra Airport CEO is jumping up and down for high speed rail so we can serve as Sydney's second airport. On that note, does anybody have a valid reason why we cannot get on board wifi on domestic airlines in Australia?
I had it on Alaska Air last year on the LAX-ReaganDC for IIRC US$12 cross continent flight duration using gogoair.com

Hmmm.... $20m? I think that will please just about nobody. It's neither a proper redevelopment, or a new stadium.
A few extra seats and a new training field...

The only pics I have seen are from the 2 year old Master Plan. I'm assuming what is proposed is Stage 1 of that which was costed at $34m at the time.Adelaide_United_Red wrote:I can't access twitter at work..any chance of a pic on Austadiums please?Boba Fett wrote:Hmmm.... $20m? Stage 1 east stand referb.
Stage 2 west upgrade
Stage 3 ends....
I think they should develop a Corp to the south and link into the east and west via new raised concourses.

More porn.
I quite like it. Logistics wise, I haven't thought about it enough yet to discuss.

Yep, it is actually, for an Eels and Wanderers fan.
It's the perfect solution if that continued the whole way around the stadium, with plenty of corporate space at the back, as is current with the western stand. Sad thing is, stadium designers in this country generally f**k things up, so, it's a pipe dream.
Suncorp is the best big rectangular stadium in the country.
This would go close to being the best small one. MRS is probably a notch above what this could achieve.
