Nope, that's simply not true. GWS used the facility, that's true, but it was not developed for them.
That is straight up bullshit.....
Sorry the facts don't coincide your opinion...

It was never meant to be GWS' home ground. Get your facts right.

Underused? It's used far more than most major sports grounds around the country.

Skoda Stadium is used for most of GWS's games during the season and is in use during the Sydney Royal Easter Show. It was also a ground that was already in place after being built for the Olympics games.
Yep, There was never not going to be a second AFL team in Sydney after this announcement that the AFL had mroe to do with then you guys would like to give credit for due to whatever reasons.

The training facility is AFL only....cricket didn't get anything they asked for like indoor nets etc this space was ultimatly exclusivly given to AFL..... Refer to the master plans....I do know what processes happened during the development. At the end of the day Cricket got access to an upgraded oval... If AFL says it is okay.

Softball and baseball are the primary users of the precinct anyway....following the legacy from the Olympics...they got the biggest kick in the nuts at the end of the day.

Great, someone else that hasn't actually seen the ground.

The way you muppets are talking is like they built a 20,000 seat venue there. It's got a grand total of about 2,000 seats! How the hell was it ever going to host AFL matches?

Might want to do some research before throwing claims around mate. I've been to the stadium a number of times for different events including:

The Stadium's open day
State Cricket matches
NAB cup

I am a local to the area after all.

Yes, the ground listed on this site as the "Blacktown Football Ground" has 2,000 seats and a total capacity of 10,000.

Now it's 2013, GWS had plans to move their main training facility to Sydney Olympic Park, which now makes it all the more useless.

Yet GWS remain a major user of the ground.

From their twitter feed just today:

GWS Giants ‏@GWS_Giants
The @SlaterGordon GIANTS Academy trials kicked off in Blacktown yesterday, find out all the details here: http://bit.ly/13FeGXd #standtall

Yeah, the place is a white elephant. It just lies empty.

If you really thought that regular season AFL games were planned to be played there then you're either stupid or ignorant.

Firstly, "snap". Secondly, the reason for the bickering is that there's a disconnect between what we think were AFl/GWS' intentions for Blacktown and what actually transpired. If they only ever intended Blacktown to be a training ground for GWS, how come they had to abandon it as their training base in their first season in the AFL? If it was never really intended to be their base, why was such a big deal made about it being their home in the press from when its development was first announced?

Purely rumour based on speculation by a bloke who once took out the sister of a bloke who dated a former girl friend of AD's brother way back when, I heard that AFL tried to convince the NSW Government to have the proposed World Cup venue at BSIP built as an oval for the proposed GWS team.
