The big losers are Blacktown Council. They threw their lot in for this at the expense of other facilities in the hope GWS would have more of a presence and really project the place to the rest of the country. You don't get that with one NAB Cup fixture a year and an academy training base.

Does GWS really care? I doubt it. As far as I can see they're not paying for anything.
More fool Blacktown council for getting suckered on that deal. Yet again, the AFL's administration is shown to be far and away the most astute sporting organisation in the country. And sometimes I wonder whether they're the best in the world...
I give that comment 4 out of 5 wankies

Geez, what do I have to say to get 5/5 wankies?!? :)

27 million from the state government. Not quibbling over small biccies here.

Funny you quote Roy Masters. He's written another article about GWS here:

Apparently it's only $15 million the state government spent (which even then is from a dubious source - being Roy himself). Of course, that would include what seems to be pretty extensive cricket facilities, but Roy doesn't mention that. Also that it's used almost entirely by locals. You know, the people that pay their rates and taxes in NSW. Does he seriously think there haven't been similar facilities for local rugby league clubs built in Sydney? Who else would be paying for them? Because i'm sure as sh*t it's not the NRL. Its just that no-one whines about it because they're not insecure douchebags. Why not whine about that athletics track up the road? They're not cheap to build.
